1.By structural features

2.By nature of use

①Production cold storage Mainly built near food production areas, areas with a high concentration of supplies and fishing bases, usually as an important part of aquatic processing plants, meat processing plants, poultry and egg processing plants, dairy processing plants, fruit and vegetable processing plants, all kinds of food processing enterprises. The food products are stored briefly after cold processing and then transported to various sales areas for sale or long-term storage. Such cold storage is equipped with a large cooling and freezing capacity and a certain storage capacity.


②Distributive cold storage Mainly located in large and medium-sized cities or areas with a large and concentrated population, the main role is to receive cold-processed food products for storage and market supply. It is characterised by a large cold storage capacity, which enables multiple foodstuffs to be stored; a small freezing capacity, which is only used for the re-freezing of softened portions of long-distance transfer goods in transit and the freezing of small batches of local fresh foodstuffs. It therefore requires good transport conditions in the storage area and rapid throughput.


③Retail Cold Storage   This type of cold storage is generally built near large living facilities, such as large food markets and supermarkets, for the temporary storage of retail food. It is characterised by small storage capacity, short storage period and varying temperatures with different requirements.


3.By size

The distinction between cold storage according to size is a relative concept, the general distinction is: 10,000 tons of cold storage is called large cold storage, production cold storage equipped with freezing capacity in the range of 120 ` 160t/d, distribution cold storage equipped with freezing capacity in the range of 40 ~ 80t/d; 1,000 tons to 10,000 tons level for medium-sized cold storage, production cold storage equipped with freezing capacity in the range of 40 ` 120t/d, distribution cold storage equipped with freezing capacity in the range of 20 ~ 60t/d The production cold stores are equipped with a freezing capacity in the range of 20 to 60t/d, the distribution cold stores are equipped with a freezing capacity in the range of 20 to 40t/d, the distribution cold stores are equipped with a freezing capacity in the range of 20t/d and the retail cold stores are generally not equipped with a freezing store.



4.By temperature
